Treating Chin Acne with Halley Medical Aesthetics

My previous blog post touched on my consultation with Dr Terence Tan from Halley Medical Aesthetics with regards to my acne and birthmark conditions.

Today’s post will fill you guys in on my acne treatment with Dr Tan, which I am glad to say that I am pretty satisfied with the results! ☺

I have tried a few pimple medications but because my acne is not the usual normal kind of pimple, it was ineffective. What is worse is that it makes my already dry skin drier and a very unsightly image after applying my makeup on, because it cakes.

Acne on chin usually result from stress and indigestion problems, which I have blogged about before, both of which I am experiencing with. 🙁

After my assessment with Dr Tan, we proceeded with the acne treatment using Intralesional Steroid injection. This treatment is a direct delivery of medication into the problem spot, with the aim of improving its appearance or reducing symptoms such as itch or pain. The injection of a steroid into the skin has two advantages over topical and oral steroid treatment. Firstly, it will often be more effective in treating deep-seated conditions than a steroid cream or ointment, and secondly, it will only affect the area in which it is injected rather than have the general effects of a steroid taken by mouth.

The most common uses of intralesional steroid therapy are in the treatment of excess scar tissue (hypertrophic or keloid scars), acne cysts, and alopecia areata (a form of hair loss).

Depending on the size of the area to be treated, several injections may be required. You will first need to consult your doctor or dermatologist to determine if this is a treatment that is suitable for you.

Before the treatment, numbing cream will be applied to the target area. The numbing effect took about 10 to 15 minutes to kick off. To further minimize any discomfort, the staff at Halley also kindly numbed the acne area with an ice pack in a cute teddy bear packaging 😛

About 5 minutes later, Dr Tan proceeded with the treatment injection.

It is common for us girls to be concerned about the pain factor. I must say that the pain was effectively minimized with the numbing cream and ice pack. You may feel a slight discomfort like an ant bite but that was all, so not to worry ☺

I was also given an application medication for my acne problem Miconazole cream ($11.90). Lastly, I was also given Doxycycline capsules ($30) – a type of antibiotics to prevent infection from occurring.

After the treatment and medication, guess what?!

My acne bumps have effectively subsided and has since not acted up anymore!!!
