Braces journey for underbite (ending soon)

Yes, the title says it all!

Visited the dentist yesterday for my monthly tightening of my braces and I must be pleased to announce that Dr Lim informed me that I will be able to remove my braces soon!!!

I have been pestering him about this each time I visit him…HAHA!

Because the main problem of my underbite has been solved and my teeth are generally straightened now, I don’t see anymore progress/changes/reasons for the braces, but the recent months had Dr Lim trying to adjust/rotate some 1 or 2 teeth as they are not perfectly aligned and equal with the rest.

photo 1 (44)

Currently, I am rotating 1 of my 2 front teeth as it has been pushed too far out (afraid I’m gonna have buck teeth soon…!) and so we are trying to adjust it back to where it should be.

After this is done, hopefully successful, Dr Lim mentioned that I can set up my retainers which require the machine for the teeth mould…and which Q&M Bedok Branch does not have. So Imma have to head down to most probably the Orchard branch.

I asked Dr Lim if my underbite would recur once I am off my braces and do I have to rely on the retainers perpetually?

I have heard news of how my friend’s underbite recurred after he took off his braces and highlighted this to Dr Lim. He mentioned that it shouldn’t be the case unless the patient was still at the growing stage, which I thought this may most probably be the reason why as my friend did it presumably quite young (since he told me last year when he was 20?).

It is a little contradicting because I was told that wearing braces should be during when one is still young so the teeth and bone structure will be easier to shift. That was also the reason why I was skeptical in the first time as I only started wearing braces and attempting to correct my underbite a year ago, at the age of 25.

But I am very thankful for being so lucky!

I managed to solve my underbite problem at such later age and WITHOUT having to undergo any jaw surgery. I have heard how painful and expensive it is for that surgery. And and and, I was quoted 2 years by Dr Lim when we first started out but because everything seems to go so smoothly…I’ll be able to remove my braces waaaaay before that!

So anyway, I started out with my teeth looking like this :

jan braces

My top teeth were crooked and I had an underbite.

My current teeth looks like this :

braces march 2014

photo 4 (36)

So much improvements within 1 year and 2 months right? 😀

So so so happy!!

Dr Lim used an additional wire to tighten my upper row hence no pinky rubberbands…

This is how my teeth adjustments have progressed over the months (sorry for the lack of pictures in Jan and Feb)

I’ll be returning for my review again in 3 weeks’ time so please pray hard for me that my tooth would be obedient and then I’ll be ready to be metal-teeth NO MORE! 😀

I have been receiving a handful of queries regarding my braces and underbite (didn’t know there were so many people in Sg facing the same problem too). Thank you so much for reading and accompanying me through my journey! 🙂

I hope I can be of help to everyone alright! 🙂

My 3rd Sculptra Treatment with Celevenus Wellness & Aesthetic Clinic

–          He is the most experienced doctor in this procedure

–          He is the Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for Sculptra

So rest assured that you’re in good and safe hands! 🙂

photo 5 (26)

Results so far have been effective and promising which you can read about the gradual progress in my previous blog posts :

1st Sculptra treatment session

2nd Sculptra treatment session

For those who have no idea :

What is this treatment about?

To summarize, it is a type of filler, injected with  l-poly-lactic acid to help stimulate and encourage facial growth via natural collagen production. By ‘natural’, it means that the collagen formed comes from your own tissue. Besides being able to achieve facial volume, Sculptra is also able to target other common areas due to loss of facial volume and ageing problems such as wrinkles, folds and skin laxity.

From my 2nd treatment, you could tell that results were already taking effect.

Here is a comparison of the results thus far :

1st to 3rd sculptra 2

And my most recent picture taken only few days ago (2 weeks after 3rd Sculptra treatment) while I was in Phuket with my boyfriend :

photo 1 (43)

Totally no filters at all!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw how different I am right now, even my boyfriend noticed the difference and complimented that I look better with fuller cheeks! 😀

What’s more is that my nasolabial folds, otherwise known as laugh lines (caused by ageing, sunkened cheeks, lack of volume and braces), are smoothened out too as well!

Who says you can’t defy ageing?

Now you can with Sculptra, which helps you achieve a more refined and youthful looking appearance over time that is clinically proven to be able to last up to 2 years or at least 25 months!

Being a woman (In commemoration of International Women’s Day)

Being a feminist, I have always advocated for gender equality between both sexes. Apart from opting to major in ‘Human Rights of Women’ as one of my modules in my Master of Laws programme, I have also been contributing as a remote researcher with Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) – Singapore’s Women Activists.
Read here for 1 of my contributions on World Bank Group – Women, Business and the Law – Existence and Scope on Singapore Laws Addressing Domestic Violence and Sexual Harassment(Link).

Women as a whole, have been suppressed of their rights in which is prevailing in other countries, especially in the developing countries.

Apart from the biological strength that men naturally possess, that in my opinion is the very first initial reason why women are categorised as the 2nd tier of human beings in terms of genders, there are myriads of reasons as to when women are so different from men. Stemming from biological, to mental, to social standings and expectations to spiritual etc.

Women in Singapore are generally in a much better and well-off position compared to those in the developing countries. Comparing the developed and developing countries, our rights are not as suppressed in totality. Let us put bits and pieces of gender discrimination aside, looking at the bigger picture, we women still receive opportunities for education, posses voting rights, be financially independent etc.

However, if you were to compare the stress levels between a housemaker who depends financially on her husband who is the sole breadwinner to most working women who has to juggle among taking care of her family, which spells, her husband, her parents (shared responsibilities with her siblings if circumstances permit), her child/children, cooking and cleaning of the house as well as to cope with her other responsibilities and commitments at work, her boss, her colleagues, her workload, the expectations of her… yada yada yada.

Of course, I am not saying that the men play no part. In fact, I am all for both the men and women should work as a team if they were to get married and start a family.

But because women are more inclined towards care-taking as they are more sensitive to emotional needs and logically, they would be emotionally more attached to their children, after carrying them in their womb for 9 months. That is notwithstanding of all the pain and suffering they have to experience during pregnancy and after pregnancy.

Looking at how my sister has to go through during her pregnancy and currently, when she has to constantly be on her toes, be it to attend to my niece’s cryings, whining, shouting, pee, poo, pumping milk, having the patient to soothe the baby to sleep or to quieten down etc, does shed more light as to how strong a woman has to be for her child. This strength stems from the unconditional love of a mother for her child no doubt.

I am thankful for the fact that Singapore does govern women’s rights quite a bit, with the Women’s Charter and all. Of course, there are loopholes which put women at a greater disadvantage than men or totally benefit the men. There is no one perfect Utopian society and system, and furthermore, you can never please everyone. Balance is the key but with inevitable dissatisfaction from both parties (where it involves only 2 groups that is).

If you know me personally, I am not your girly-girl sort of girl and you would seldom see my bf carrying my bag for me, unless I really really need help or when I’m dead-beat. Also, I rather speak my mind than to beat around the bush to get my thoughts voiced out. I detest when girls manja/teh/sainai otherwise known as whine. That is too childlike for me. Grow up. Looking at the rate how local men are choosing foreign women over local women could be attributed to this factor, although I am often told that even some foreign women are domineering lot.

I hate to depend on other people and always strive to be self-sufficient and independent, although sometimes emotionally-dependent may be difficult to be avoided. I like standing on my own two feet and have a mind of my own, but at the same time, respecting others. I don’t say I am perfect, but at least I do try.

The recent Stomp news on how a girl (regardless of her nationality, she’s a Malaysian by the way or so they claimed) chided her bf publicly because he bought her a can of coke, which apparently isn’t her cuppa tea (pun unintended) and goes on to reprimand him for being useless as he is unable to provide her a ‘better’ life financially and materialistically, totally irks the hell outta me.

While it is enjoyable and pleasurable, otherwise known as ‘shiok’, to have someone pay everything for you, but that lack of self-accomplishment is actually something money cannot buy. You have to strive with your own bare hands to achieve that.

Both parties should actually work hard and strive towards whatever common goals they have, and women on the other hand, should not cry out loud and push all the blame to the men (unless he’s really useless – bumming around and wasting money etc) when they are also at the very same time, advocating for gender equality.

I know the contradictions.

One of the ironies of Life.

*This post is to commemorate International Women’s Day which falls on 8th March every year across the world. IWD is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future. It is a day when women are recognised for their achievements, regardless of divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.

And with this, as a woman, I thank those who have been constantly fighting and upholding women’s rights and championing for gender equality.

Happy 6th Anniversary to us!

We turned 6 yesterday – 9th March.

6 years ago, we became a couple officially and fast forward 6 years to date, we have grown so much individually and together. Naturally, there were ups and downs throughout these 6 years and conflicts are natural and common when 2 people come together. Differences are bound to exist. When your love is strong, you would try and embrace these differences rather than to avoid and blame all fault on them. It will be the same for anyone and everyone and even with your next partner.

No doubt there were times where both of us felt like giving up half way but we stayed rooted to our beliefs and feelings for each other and persevered to date. There were both internal and external factors that attempted to ripped us apart into pieces and begone I say to all those negativities, including outsiders. There would always be fkers who try and destroy your happiness just so they feel good about themselves or that they are just plain sadist psychos.

And another issue is that, some people are just too quick to judge and jump into conclusions based on groundless assumptions. They think that I’m this, this, this type of person or that he is that, that, that kind of character. But little do they know, what they thought they knew may or may not make up an insignificant percentage of the truth. And another thing is that I totally cannot tolerate nosey parkers. Why can’t you just mind your own business? Some poked their noses into people’s business just so they can compare their “social standing”. Whatever okay? Imbalanced imbeciles.

Anyway, I wouldn’t say he is perfect, neither would I claim that I am too, and bearing in mind the notion that “Nobody is perfect”, no one body should be either. Obstacles are what strengthen bonds and relationships, and further deepen feelings and ties. We may have had our fair share of unhappy moments but I cannot deny the fact that I do enjoy every happy moment and memory we once had and would continue to have.

No matter how angry we are with each other, at the end of the day, what is most assuring is that we know that we still have each other to hold and that we will always be there for each other. That has always been our beliefs and faith in one another.

We may not express our love and affection much in the public, except for maybe on social media such as Facebook once in a while, but we are 100% certain of the love we have for one another.

One similarity we have is that we avoid displaying public of affection, otherwise known as “PDA” (Public Display of Affection) because we respect each other, respect those around us be it our families or friends and totally just cannot tolerate those “touchy” couples who cannot seem to get their hands or mouth off each other. Not sure if these couples even have the dignity to feel ashamed but if I were their friend, I would feel damn awkward which I have experienced a few times. Please, just go get a room okay?

Okay, rants aside. Now into the happy things! 😀

So for this very special occasion, compared to Valentine’s Day, we headed to Phuket together 🙂

Isn’t it beautiful??? <3

Will blog about the whole trip on Phuket another time so stay tuned if you wanna know which hotel did we resided at, cheap hotels to recommend, good reviews of hotels, food, drinks…shopping, where to go in Phuket etc!

After uploading pictures on our Facebook, we have had received some queries pertaining the same from some of our friends, so yes…because you will need to do your homework, i.e. research before embarking on your journey, do keep your eyes peeled for the coming posts!

I just hope that I will have the time to document all of them holistically, perhaps dividing them out into few posts, but I am currently just so swamped with work, backlogs of articles for MFP, advertorials….so please be patient with me alrighty! 😀

I decided to splurge a little more this time round since it was a very special occasion for us both and gotten him 3 presents! And also especially since he has been very prompt in getting me presents for xmas, bday and valentine's day…I thought it was time to buck up as a gf and surprise him x3!!! Hahaha!

What I got for him :

The scrapbook contains many wonderful memories of the past 6 years and yes, the contents will be kept private for our our eyes to see. 😉

What he got for me :

I am extremely happy to receive this classic Tiffany & Co bracelet because it has always been on my wish list! I am not really a fan of Pandora because I have no idea what the current hype is all about…and the jacked up prices is just so ridiculous!! No offence to those Pandora lovers but in my honest opinion, it is more worthwhile to get Tiffany & Co than Pandora since T&C has been a more established brand than the former, 1837 vs 1982 and it was already much more popular before all the Pandora craze happened, which I believe would die down in time to come.

So yes, we had a very enjoyable short getaway at Phuket to celebrate our anniversary this year 🙂 <3

Psst, for those who have been asking about our marriage plans, nope, there aren’t any concrete ones on hand now because the bf is currently swamped up by work and studies and whereas for me on the other hand, I will be graduating with my Masters soon but marriage is not in mind yet either because career-minded me wants to build up and expand my portfolio first while advancing and climbing the corporate ladder. So please do us a favour and stop asking…

Pique Nique Food Review

We had brunch at Pique Nique a few days ago after my 3rd Sculptra treatment at Celevenus!

Read here for my previous treatment sessions :

1st Sculptra treatment session

2nd Sculptra treatment session

For those who have no idea :

What is this treatment about?

To summarize, it is a type of filler, injected with  l-poly-lactic acid to help stimulate and encourage facial growth via natural collagen production. By ‘natural’, it means that the collagen formed comes from your own tissue. Besides being able to achieve facial volume, Sculptra is also able to target other common areas due to loss of facial volume and ageing problems such as wrinkles, folds and skin laxity.

Will be blogging about my 3rd session soon with pictures and results thus far!

Here’s what we had at Pique Nique 🙂

photo 3 (28)

2 Cappuccinos!

Cappuccinos were acceptable. I dont prefer using raw/brown sugar because it defeats the purpose, it doesn’t sweeten the coffee at all! Abit of sugar won’t kill so imma always gonna use white sugar instead of adding packets after packets of raw/brown sugar!

photo 2 (35)

His big breakfast!

Had a few mouthfuls of his bfast and I guess it tasted okay, but scrambled eggs weren’t those fluffy kind.

photo 1 (34)

My Eggs Benny with Ham!

I kinda regretted not choosing the one with smoked salmon for my eggs benny because the ham was so tasteless! It felt as if someone soaked the whole ham into a pot of water before serving and that totally ruined the goodness of ham! I like my ham salty!

I guess the food were okay, but the customer service, especially by a guy, not sure if he’s the manager or? But he didn’t seem very happy to serve and was even a tad rude with no mannerisms. Well, maybe he has had a bad day?Other than that, the place was freezing cold, but then again, the whole takashimaya shopping mall was sooooo cold! :S

Overall rating :

3 stars

I wouldn’t say I would boycott this place altogether but given the chance and sprouts of new brunch cafes, there are certainly other better places to dine at.

Psst, for all you fellow truffle fries lovers, Pique Nique doesn’t serve that – or at least that’s what we gathered after reading off their menu.

My Valentine’s 2014

I know this blog entry is kinda backdated but nevertheless, I’m itching to blog so…here goes!

As mentioned previously, we ‘celebrated’ our Valentine’s Day together like most couples. I inserted the inverted commas because it was merely a simple dinner at East Coast Park Lagoon where we stuffed ourselves silly and had a romantic chillax session by the beach shore.

Before we decided where to head down to on 14th Feb, I already had this idea of dining at ECP and then sitting by the beach, enjoying the cool sea breeze and romantic ambience with the man.

Boy, was I really surprised that he was the one who suggested this idea without any slightest hint! I really love times like this where the man knows what’s on my mind and what I want. This unexplainable telepathy simply swoons me and melts my heart! <3

Whenever we patronise ECP Lagoon, we will always choose this stall which sells yummy salted veg and duck soup! I recall the times when my family often dine there too when I was young and they are still operating until now! It’s more than a decade old!

Our simple vday dinner of the night :

photo 3 (27)

This salted veg duck soup is a must have! The most delicious one I’ve ever tasted! It even includes chillies for the spicy taste!

photo 5 (23)

The man chose chilli crab and as I was feeling adventurous, I agreed but only regretted after that. It was too spicy for me to take, but overall the meat was satisfactory.

photo 4 (27)

The sambal stingray dipped a little in its standard and towards to end, it become a little dry.

photo 2 (33)

This ‘orh lua’ was from another stall and as it was our first dish to arrive, while waiting for the other dishes, our grumbling tummies took every bit with nothing to spare on the plate. Oysters were pretty decent in its size, but if you can’t take on its strong taste, do dip into the chilli to ward off the smell and taste.

I didn’t get the man any pressie because we had an agreement that it would just be a simple vday since our anni is nearing (more on that soon! can’t wait!), however this silly boy went the extra mile to brighten up my vday by sneakily getting these pressies for me!

photo 1 (33)

When he presented the 1st pressie which was the musical box, I was already surprised. So you could imagine my feelings and expressions when he told me he had a 2nd pressie for me. OMG.

We actually chanced upon this musical box on one of the weekend afternoons and while I was as curious as a cat, trying to figure out how it operates and was impressed by this little innovation, the man had something else in mind, of which did not even cross my mind until he told me.

It may be a simple musical box standing on one of the push carts in a mall, trying its best to impress potential customers (well it sure did for me!) with its sentimental midi song, but what melted my heart was what my bf said to me.

He simply said in a sweet one, “It reminds me of us.”

Immediately, tears welled up in my eyes which even he doesn’t know. You know the feeling whereby your mind is off somewhere, like in my case, trying to figure out the technicalities of this little machine and then boom, in comes sweet words from your loved one.

I was a little taken aback and not knowing what to do, I just smiled and laughed along, and I never thought much about it from then on.

And fast forward 5 days later, this musical box belongs to me. :’)

Descriptive words can do no justice to showcase how sweet this musical box is, so here’s a little video recording to better and accurately illustrate what I’m describing :

[embedplusvideo height=”270″ width=”480″ editlink=”” standard=”″ vars=”ytid=-Qk0MEoqqLE&width=480&height=270&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=1&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=&notes=” id=”ep9254″ /]

And I on the other hand, sticking to the ‘simple vday’ principle, trying to save up for better presents for our upcoming anni, merely made a ‘cookie cake’ for him.

I called it a ‘cookie cake’ because firstly, it was supposed to be a cookie but I used a heart-shaped baking tray so…it become a huge thick cookie like a cake.

photo (10)

In all honesty, I am not a great cook. It was only recently I picked up the interest in cooking and even more recently, baking (I’ll be baking my 1st cake tonight with my new toy! Fill u guys in on this later~!) and so this little ‘cookie cake’ which I air-fried using Philips Airfryer (after few trial and error attempts) is somewhat a little achievement to me, even though it may not be of any value in your eyes.

But when the bf presented to me 2 pressies, the value of this ‘cookie cake’ suddenly dipped while the guilt skyrocketed like nobody’s business.

I know it’s the thoughts that count but still…..

I was really really guilt-strickened and till now, we havent had the time to go shopping for his vday pressie! And I’ve some plans on my mind for our anni apart from our Phuket trip! 😀

Speaking of that, back to planning for our short getaway! <3

Fill your tummy with delicious food at Toby’s The Dessert Asylum!

Sponsored Advertorial

I was invited to try out the food at TOBY’s which is located at Parkway Parade awhile ago and only managed to head down just few days ago.

I brought my bf as my plus one and boy, were we both stuffed with delicious food!

photo (8)

photo 5 (22)

TOBY’s is easy to spotted from far due to the spacious area as well as colourful ambience.

The cafe is clean and neat, with loads of beautiful decorations and furniture but yet nothing over the top. Happy colours psychologically cheers one up! 🙂

photo 2 (32) photo 1 (32)

These were what we ordered :

For starters, we were highly recommended by one of their staff to try out their Spicy Hot Wings.

photo 1 (30)

photo 2 (30)

You can see how the wings are fried to perfect golden brown and every bite you sink your teeth into, you will sure to savour every crunch. They are not too oily so it eases some guilt for the health-conscious people. They were really addictive and very yummy! I highly recommend this dish too! 🙂

My bf ordered German and Cheese Bratwurst Dawgs Combi which was served sizzling hot. Creamy cheese oozes out with every bite of the Bratwurst and they literally just melt in your mouth! Another must-try too!

photo 4 (25)

As I was craving for some breakfast meal, I opted for good ol’  MOB Omelette from their breakfast menu!

photo 3 (26)

photo 3 (24)

photo 2 (31)

Look at the generous fillings of mushrooms, bacon, onion and cheese! Yummy!

And wondering what to quench your thirst?

Why not pamper yourself with this rich chocolate-y coffee topped with vanilla ice cream for that extra refreshing boost!

photo 5 (21)

photo 1 (31)

Bf had another energizing and rejuvenating drink called Pear-adise. I really like how TOBY’s pays meticulous attention to the names of their dishes and how entertaining they are!

photo 4 (26)

And last but not least, how can you walk out of TOBY’s without trying their desserts? They are a dessert asylum for god’s sake!

Bf and I settled with To-By Or Not To-By Mudpie that embraces rum and raisin ice cream, rich double choc ice cream filled with truckloads of chocolate chips and crispy waffle bits!

Personal musings

Apart from all those reviews and advertorials, I like to think that I own this little blogosphere of mine too and that my ardent readers would like to get to know me a little more…ahem. So here’s a personal blog post for y’all!

What I want to touch upon today will be a topic on most’s lips at the moment… VALENTINE’S DAY!

Yes, V-day is just around the corner, like what, 2 days later?

And if anyone of you would like to know what plans I have in mind?

The answer is NO, I don’t.

The same goes for bf.

We don’t have any idea what to do or eat or to give each other for V-day.

But I honestly don’t mind because it’s the next month that we are both looking forward to!

We are reaching 6 next month and every anniversary, be it a monthsary, couple anniversary, wedding anniversary, bitrhdays (well, it’s still kinda an anniversary since it commemorates one’s birth annually, isn’t it?) will always be special to the parties involved.

V-day is really just like any other day and somehow, the pressure to ‘celebrate’ V-day is often caused by peer pressure, social media influence and basically, overrated and commercialised.

Prices for dining places, gifts and flowers will skyrocket like nobody’s business.

But that aside, don’t say that I’m sucha spoil sport or a lousy gf, I do have something in mind that I wanna give my bf too. I’m leaving the choice of restaurant up to him though 😉

I’m really looking forward to what’s welcoming us next month and our plans for our 6th! Totally can’t wait! <3

Okay, lovey-dovey stuffs aside.

The next topic I wanna talk about yet keeping it kinda discreet is that…I will be venturing into a new adventure and environment soon. It will be another milestone for me to achieve and naturally, closes yet another chapter of my life. It would definitely play a major role in my life as I embark on this journey. I shall remain positive and embrace any inevitable difficulties encountered, and use them as a learning experience for me. I’m a person who loves challenges and am a motivated individual, so I’m really keeping my fingers crossed!

Till then, I will keep this as it is right now.

The last topic would be on health.

2012 was not exactly a fantastic year for my health. I fell sick quite often, recalling an incident where I suffered from high fever for 5 days during this same period of the year and every other day, I would be stuffing my nose away with loads of tissues.

2013 was a better year for my health. I still do fall sick but not as frequent and I recover faster than 2012.

However, it’s only been about 2.5 months since the new year started and I’ve been falling sick quite often.

I had bouts of runny nose, sore throat and currently am coughing my lungs out, and of course, I do know what’s the cause behind all these sickness – lack of sleep.

I haven’t been sleeping enough recently especially during the CNY period or either that, my brain chooses to be super active during the night which keeps me awake for few hours or either that auto awakes my body in the middle of the night.

Also, I have had stomach flu the day after my bday, after recovering from a terrible flu. I had to be on mc for 2 days and almost fainted at the clinic after I was jabbed to stop the nauseating moments. I never had such reaction before to injection and thank god for my bf, he rushed down to pick me up and send me home. If not, I would have most probably fainted if I went home by myself. The doctor saw that I was still sticking around the clinic even after the consultation and that I have already collected my prescribed medicine, and so he asked to check if I was okay. He scared the shit outta me when he told me if this continues, I would have to be placed on drip.

I have since replenished my vitamin c pills and hopefully, I will get back on track on a healthier lifestyle. I’ve stopped running for about a month now and each time I have the free time to do so, I can’t because I’m sick. It’s definitely not recommended to exercise if you’re sick. But thank god, I will be participating in the Safari Zoo Run – 12km this coming Sunday. It will be my furthest distance thus far and I guess the route is a little more hilly and difficult than the usual marathon runs.

I just hope that I would recover on time… 🙁

My first birthmark removal treatment session

In my previous post, I talked about how my birth marks have affected my self-esteem and reduced my self-confidence, so much so that I avoided wearing shorts for some time. Even when I do wear them now, I am still very conscious about its presence.

Getting rid of my unsightly birthmarks has been what I have yearning for, and I am excited about my treatment at Astique Clinic!

I made some enquiries, and found out that for birth mark removals or other pigmentation problems, Astique Clinic offer laser treatment for hyperpigmentation, via the Medlite C6 laser from HOYA ConBio®, the latest in Q-switched laser technology. The Medlite has been studied in many clinical trials and is approved by the FDA for the successful treatment of pigmentation disorders including birthmarks.

Depending on the size and extent of your birthmark pigmentation and the treatment level of your sessions, you may need anywhere from 2 to 6 sessions. The treatment may be repeated every 1 to 4 weeks, depending on the type, extent and severity of the pigmentation. After the procedure, there will be mild redness at the treated area which usually resolves after a few hours. More obvious localised redness lasting a few days may occur with intensive spot treatments for more resistant pigmentation.

Before the treatment began, I had a further consultation with Dr Matthew Yap to further clarify my doubts.

Here are some useful tips and questions which you may wish to consider during the consultation process :

  • What type of birthmark is yours? (Assuming you are removing your birthmarks)
  • Is it 100% safe?
  • What is the downtime for recovery?
  • Can you resume your normal activities after treatment?
  • What food/drinks to avoid?
  • Will it recur?
  • What is the pain factor?
  • How many treatment sessions are required?
  • Is there a need to apply any lotion aftermath?
  • How long will it take to peel/scab?

I did my own research and read up more on my type of birthmark which is Cafe-au-lait spots. These birthmarks are brown and flat, and also I had to confirm with Dr Yap on the recurrence as I have read about it online too. It is difficult to gauge the possibility of recurrence and depending on a case-by-case basis, it is possible that these Cafe-au-lait spots recur.

So I am really crossing my fingers here.

There will be peeling and scabbing occurring and during 2 weeks post-treatment, and some itchiness will be felt which is normal. Scratch the areas around the treated area if you really need to scratch. I was also prescribed antiseptic cream to apply twice a day after the treatment. The area might also be sensitive especially after treatment, so do take extra pre-caution. You may avoid wearing tight fitting clothes, like how I wore shorts for the next few days to prevent any abrasion and it is highly recommendable that you moisturise the area with your usual body moisturiser as the area would dry out when the skin is preparing to scab.

Most importantly, AVOID any direct contact with the sun and slap on your usual sunblock lotion as tanning might cause these areas to darken further.

I am very pleased with the results thus far although I know that the biggest birth mark would still require further treatment sessions to completely reduce/remove it.

I am really looking forward to flawless skin with this laser treatment!
